Neantog - The Irish Nettle Company - Who we are.
Our name, Neantog, comes from the Irish word for nettles. Stinging nettles are abundantly available around us and are the core ingredient of our hand produced skincare range.
The sting of this "weed" was the torture of our childhood. However, when we went to our parents for sympathy we were frequently treated to tales of the many wonders of this gift of nature. As children we were unconvinced by this effort to calm us. Una, our CEO, has been a keen natural skincare enthusiast for many years and in 2011 decided to undertake some research into these childhood stories. The results of that research surprised us hugely. Not only were our parents telling the truth but nettles delivered many further benefits that they were not aware of at the time. |
Una then established The Irish Nettle Company and set to work developing the current range of skincare products. The results from early users gave her great confidence to pursue this as a full-time business. That business has grown and gained in reputation and in 2017 Siobhan joined to assist on the digital side of the business while Cormac assists with the financials and paperwork.
Wicklow - The Garden of Ireland
Our location is at the foothills of the Wicklow mountains, renowned as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Wicklow Way passes close by and outdoor enthusiasts regularly drop by to take home some of the natural bounty of the area. They are continually amazed by the seemingly endless properties and versatility of the stinging nettle plant.
At Neantog we want to share with you the wonders of nettles and so we proudly present our range. Enrich your skin daily with the assurance of quality products and our commitment to our friends and customers. |
Processing stinging nettles.
Our nettles are hand-picked throughout the growing season April/May – September/October. By constantly harvesting the new nettle tops we encourage new growth providing us with and endless supply of this spectacular plant. We also allow some of the plants to go to seed and these are also picked as they are a powerhouse of nutrients.
Immediately after picking the nettles are washed by hand and dried in dehydrators. This process takes many hours to ensure all moisture content has been removed. These are then stored in airtight containers until needed. |
Immersing these dried nettles in oils such as Organic Sunflower Oil, Safflower Oil and Rice Bran Oil over a warm heat for several hours enables us to extract the properties and benefits from the dried nettles. These oils are not only great carrier oils but also have many skin-beneficial attributes themselves. Each Oil is reinfused three times to produce highly concentrated nettle oil infusions.

Nettle infused oils are then blended by hand in small batches with other natural and organic oils and ingredients to create wonderful lotions, serums and balms."
